Children and Teenagers
I work with children and teens to create a respectful and non-judgemental space where they can feel safe to be themselves and explore how they navigate their emerging world to find their place in it.
I have worked with children and teenagers in art and educational settings for over 20 years. For 7 years, I was an art education facilitator in various Children and Family programs for the Gallery of Modern and Qld. Art Gallery.
When I moved to Armidale in late 2018, I worked with young people doing art classes at Backtrack Youthworks from 2019 to 2020 then worked on murals with a couple of BackTrack members in 2021. While studying, I started working with children and adults within the NDIS. In 2023, I produced and facilitated two children’s art programs at the local gallery, NERAM, and enjoyed working alongside Dr. Somayeh Ba Akhlagh from UNE for an educational research project with local Ezidi families. I completed a year of workplace supervision for my master’s degree at Armajun Armidale.
My approach prioritises each client’s comfort and sense of control, ensuring a safe and supportive environment. The work happens by moving at the speed of trust; this is unique to each individual and each relationship. I observe and respond to a client’s unique needs, incorporating age-appropriate art materials and techniques to encourage authentic self-expression. Through the making process, clients build skills in self-awareness, self-reflection, self-esteem, self-reliance and resilience.
